60 beds
Commissioned as the sister site to Beresford Hall, located directly across the road, Drayton House extends Provectus Care’s vision for premium aged care. With 60 beds and a refined, hotel-like experience throughout, every resident room was designed for comfort and dignity. Shared spaces—including a rooftop garden with water views—elevate the experience beyond what’s expected in traditional aged care environments.
Site & Structural Response
The site is set deep into a steep hillside, demanding technical finesse from the outset. At one end, the ground floor meets the street; at the other, the roof sits below the road level. A complex structural propping system supports the roadway above, while a layered landscape design softens views and brings natural life to even the most enclosed spaces.
Drayton House is the result of close collaboration between MDP, Richard Crookes Constructions and a wider consultant team. With a brief that left little room for compromise, the services design was handled with extreme precision—achieving generous ceiling heights within minimal floor-to-floor depths. The basement, sitting below the local water table, required flood gates and waterproofing strategies to manage potential ingress. Despite the complexity, delivery remained smooth, with a high standard of finish. One particular highlight: a chicken coop in the dementia garden—simple, delightful, and entirely purposeful in the residents’ day-to-day experience.
Design Language & User Experience
Referencing the classic “wedding cake” form, Drayton House terraces back from the street in graceful layers. Each level steps gently up the hill, preserving privacy while opening up views. Inside, the interior language mirrors the Provectus signature—more boutique hotel than institutional care. Every detail, from finishes to furniture, reinforces comfort, familiarity and dignity. Landscaped courtyards and the rooftop garden bring nature into daily life, and even the most spatially constrained rooms are light-filled and well-appointed. It’s a place that’s calm, engaging, and—true to the client’s brief—completely unlike traditional aged care.
MDP led both the architectural and design narrative on Drayton House, from early feasibility to final handover. Our role was not just to replicate Beresford Hall, but to evolve it—responding to a technically demanding site while delivering the same Provectus standard of luxury, care and community. We worked alongside the builder to solve structural and services constraints without compromising liveability. Every decision was grounded in function but delivered with elegance. The result is a benchmark project in dementia-specific aged care: distinctive in character, refined in execution, and deeply thoughtful in its approach to living well.
