Located in historic Millers Point, Darling House offers aged care like no other—seven exquisitely appointed apartments set within a restored heritage terrace. Designed for an exclusive clientele, every detail, from restored fireplaces to stained glass windows, contributes to a sense of lived-in elegance. It's a project where care meets craftsmanship, and where no two rooms are the same.

Design Intent & Detailing

The vision was bold: aged care that feels like a private residence, layered with personality and Victorian charm. From the AGA stove in the kitchen to the custom joinery, lavish soft furnishings and rich, heritage-inspired colours, the result is more boutique hotel than institutional facility—yet discreetly supported by the infrastructure required for a high-care environment.

Darling House was never a typical aged care project—and that was the point. With a client vision grounded in personalisation, character and historical significance, the project demanded a responsive, flexible approach from day one. The scope evolved continuously, with design adjustments woven into construction to maintain momentum while elevating quality. Heritage elements were carefully reinstated or reimagined—fireplace surrounds, a “golden fleece” stained glass window, and subtle nods to the building’s past—layered alongside premium finishes. The result is a rare experience: a home that’s as individual as its residents, in the heart of Sydney.

“Residents want to have this small boutique experience,” he said. “The compliance and paperwork is so erroneous under the Aged Care Act. We have so many models of care for such a small country. This user/pay model must be part of the system.”

Construction Collaboration & Delivery

Delivered in close collaboration with RCCI, Design 5, and a small team of specialists, MDP navigated the dual demands of heritage restoration and contemporary aged care compliance. Our role focused on project management and ensuring the integrity of the client’s evolving vision—adapting in real time while holding quality and cohesion as non-negotiables. Despite ongoing changes and a highly bespoke brief, the project was delivered with precision. Darling House proves that aged care can be warm, detailed and deeply personal—meeting regulatory demands without losing sight of comfort, elegance and identity.

MDP helped bring Darling House to life—not through volume or repetition, but through focus, craft and care. We managed a fluid design process with calm precision, enabling a one-of-a-kind result in a sector not often associated with luxury. Our delivery approach balanced flexibility with control, allowing the client’s vision to unfold without compromising timelines or cohesion. Today, Darling House is more than a building—it’s a statement about what aged care can be: intimate, beautiful, and quietly groundbreaking. A true diamond in the rough, it sets a new precedent for boutique urban care.
