History

1950s

MDP Architecture was founded in the UK in 1947 by Sam Morrison, architect and army veteran, under the name of Morrison and Partners, and quickly established a reputation for both public and private sector work.

By the early 1950’s offices were established in Derby, Oxford and London, from which a large number of major Hotel and Industrial contracts were undertaken in the Middle East. The firm was also recognised as a leader in the development of prefabricated modular, systems building, pioneering a new Derwent timber frame system for schools and then the Onward concrete frame system for English local authority schools with the renowned engineers Ove Arup & Co.

History

1970s

In 1968, a large international company purchased the rights to market one of these systems in Australia, and, with the opportunity of a very large consortium tender for the development of a new town in the Gove Peninsula, Northern Territory, an office was established in Sydney in 1969; so we now have a proven over 50 years track record in Australia.

A wide variety of work was secured in the early 1970’s and, with the continued success of the international practice in the Middle East, substantial feasibility studies were undertaken by the Australian office in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Malaysia for Educational and Medical/Hospital projects.

History

1980s

Morrison and Partners was dissolved in 1978, and the trading practices of both the UK and Australia reinstated under the company structure of MORRISON DESIGN PARTNERSHIP PTY LIMITED, which are autonomous, but available for partnering across all markets, and particularly in the Indo-Pacific.

The UK practice has a strong track record in Hotels, Civic & Industrial buildings, including for Rolls Royce as an anchor client, and increasingly in Data Centres and Urban Farming.

Morrison Design Partnership Architects Australia is a well-established practice with a proven track record in the design and delivery of high-quality built environments. Since 1969, the practice has successfully completed a diverse range of projects; but the common thread that permeates all our work is a strong focus on the “End User”. Our design solutions are always centred on the people who inhabit and depend on our buildings and so we always strive to create the best possible environment for them.

History

2000s

We have intentionally not concentrated on any single building type, but have developed a reputation in recent years for expertise in Commercial, Industrial, Residential and Mixed-Use Multi-Residential, Health & Care projects, in both the public and private sectors.

All work within the office is under the direct responsibility of one of the Directors, and together with experienced Associates and Senior Architects, we provide an extensive range of architectural design services from feasibility studies, brief preparation and master planning, through detailed concept design and working documentation, to peer reviews, project contract management and construction supervision.

We deploy state of the art design and documentation hard and software tools such as REVIT and BIM, CGI, 3D-printed and physical model-making, fly-throughs and VR along with coordination networks such as ACCONEX.

Architecture Design & Documentation Interior Design Urban Design Project Management Design Management Early Contractor Involvement Construction Management

At MDP, Architecture Design & Documentation is where inspired ideas take shape—anchored by purpose, driven by people. Every design begins with a deep understanding of the end user and a belief in architecture’s power to improve lives and communities. We design spaces that don’t just meet functional needs, but uplift experience, enhance wellbeing, and contribute to a better world. Our documentation is rigorous, ensuring what’s imagined is built with precision. With decades of proven experience, we bring creativity and clarity to every stage—transforming vision into built reality with certainty.

Through our integrated approach, our dedicated interior designers bring depth, creativity and clarity to every project. Working seamlessly alongside our architectural team, they craft interiors that not only complement the building but elevate the entire experience. With a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of how people interact with space, our interiors are both beautiful and purposeful. Their expertise adds richness to our end-to-end offering—ensuring that every surface, material, and moment is considered, cohesive, and aligned with the broader vision of delivering inspired design with certainty.

Built on decades of insight, our approach to urban design is grounded in people, place, and purpose. We see every site as part of a larger story—an evolving urban fabric shaped by culture, movement and community. Drawing on the diverse experience of our team, we design human-centric spaces that celebrate local identity while supporting future growth. From public realms to precincts, our work enhances connection, liveability and long-term value. It’s urban design that looks beyond boundaries—thoughtful, contextual and always aimed at creating places that feel as good as they function.

By combining design and delivery, our Project Management service ensures that every vision is delivered with clarity, control and confidence. We manage the full lifecycle of a project—balancing time, cost, and quality with precision. By integrating seamlessly with our design teams, we bring a unified approach that keeps momentum strong and decisions aligned from concept to completion. It’s not just about managing timelines—it’s about protecting design intent, ensuring accountability, and delivering a built outcome that meets expectations. With MDP, clients gain a calm, capable partner committed to outcomes that are as seamless as they are successful.

Design Management at MDP is about keeping every element aligned—from the earliest sketches through to construction. We manage the entire design process, coordinating consultants, maintaining the design programme, overseeing compliance with authorities, and ensuring documentation is thorough, accurate and aligned with the client’s vision. Our peer review process is a key strength—bringing in fresh eyes to interrogate documentation, identify gaps, and optimise outcomes across architecture and building services. With value management, consultant coordination, and rigorous design integration, we deliver clarity, reduce risk, and ensure certainty across every stage of your project.

Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) at MDP brings buildability into focus from the very beginning—without a builder yet appointed. By engaging construction insight early in the design process, we streamline delivery, reduce risk, and ensure the design responds to real-world constraints and opportunities. We manage every aspect—from consultant coordination and authority approvals and strategies to construction methodology, overall project efficiency, design & construction programming and subcontractor engagement. Our detailed services include buildability reviews/advice, market input, and rigorous coordination of building services. It’s a collaborative, informed approach that enhances value, accelerates timelines, and delivers certainty—well before the first shovel hits the ground.

MDP’s Construction Management service ensures the vision is delivered exactly as intended. Once design documentation is complete, we take the lead—engaging builders and subcontractors, overseeing site works, and managing every detail through to handover. Our role spans value management, construction programming, quality review, and buildability oversight. We bring structure, clarity, certainty and calm to the construction phase, ensuring timelines are met and quality never compromised. With MDP involved on site, clients gain a trusted partner who protects the design intent and delivers with the same precision we brought to the drawing board.
