The client wanted something different—something that didn’t feel like a clinic. MDP responded with a refined yet cheeky design that reflects the specificity of the Sydney Gut Clinic’s work, while maintaining a calm, contemporary feel. Gentle curves and elegant materials guided the planning, and the interiors were deeply considered, down to integrated joinery and mood-controlled lighting in the entrance.
Design Language & User Experience
To reinforce flow and comfort, the design incorporated soft curves and a dual passageway layout, allowing patients and staff to move through the space without bottlenecks. The carpet—cleverly abstracted to resemble an intestinal tract—became a memorable and light-hearted nod to the clinic’s specialty, giving the space personality without diminishing its professional, polished aesthetic.
This project lives in the details. Every doctor’s room was outfitted with integrated X-ray lightboxes, bespoke joinery for coats, umbrellas, files and personal storage—ensuring function was seamlessly embedded within a calm visual language. Curved elements not only guided spatial planning but also softened the experience of the clinic, giving it a hospitality feel. Despite a growing list of inclusions, MDP worked closely with the builder to deliver each component with care. The space strikes the balance between playful and elegant, medical and human—leaving a lasting impression on every visitor.
Client Collaboration & Practical Delivery
The client was passionate, exacting and specific—and the outcome reflects that collaboration. The brief evolved as the design progressed, with additional joinery, services and lighting specifications introduced throughout. A standout request was for colour-changing lighting in the foyer, reflecting the client’s cultural heritage—cleverly installed with a daylight override in case of future resale. Budgetary pressures were navigated transparently and efficiently, with design decisions continually aligned to value. Delivered on time and within budget, the space delighted the client so much he later commissioned MDP to design his home—a clear sign of a job well done.

From spatial layout to bespoke finishes, our approach balanced functionality with feeling—ensuring the clinic supports flow, clarity and comfort. Every detail was handled with care, and the result is a medical space that feels elegant, intuitive and far from ordinary. Through thoughtful design, strong communication and a clear sense of purpose, we created a space that’s both operationally effective and deeply human—proof that specialist clinics don’t need to look or feel clinical.
